Transit-oriented Development In South Florida

18 December 2003 - 12:00pm

The Florida DOT is encouraging transit-oriented development in South Florida with a pilot project that "officials hope will be a sign of things to come."

The Federal Highway Administration owns the land slated for the multi-use development in the City of Hollywood, and the Florida Department of Transportation, which is trying to encourage similar projects at other Tri-Rail stations, manages the land: "The plan for the 17-acre site includes 500 apartments, a kindergarten through eighth grade charter school, and recreational amenities. FDOT supports this type of transit-oriented development in an effort to encourage more people to use mass transit."
