BART Expansion Derailed
28 June 2000 - 6:30am
Planned BART expansion to San Jose is on hold following Santa Clara Supervisors vote.
Santa Clara Supervisors voted 3-2 to review a list of transportation projects for six more weeks. The supervisors need four votes to put the $3.8 billion expansion plan on the November ballot. The two supervisors who were opposed to reviewing the transportation projects are also opposed to any transportation tax on the November ballot. BART supporters, including San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales, have proposed that half of the revenues generated by the half-cent sales tax increase to be used to extend BART from Fremont to downtown San Jose.
