More On Sprawl and Obesity

David Suzuki explains why North America's car-centric society is responsible for the near-epidemic levels of obesity.
"So while more than 70 percent of their parents walked or rode bicycles to school, just 18 percent of today's schoolchildren in the United States do the same. In fact, more that 90 percent of all urban trips in the United States are by car, while just six percent are by foot or bike... By designing decentralized suburbs with little pedestrian or bicycle access to schools, offices, shopping, and recreation, we have essentially engineered physical activity out of our daily lives."
