Airport Considers Toll For Out-of-towners

Los Angeles International Airport might consider charging Orange County residents for using the airport in order to compensate nearby communities for traffic and noise.
Of the passengers beginning or ending a trip at LAX, 14 percent are from Orange County. A member of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has proposed a scheme for charging Orange County residentsfor using the LAX airport in or der to compensatenearby communities for traffic and noise. This ideawas not well received in Orange County. A Universityof Southern California professor who specializes in constitutional law was of the opinion that "a differential tax like this would very likely struck down."
