Residents moving into urban Atlanta kept pace with the city's suburban growth, ending a decades-long trend of middle-class flight.

"New population estimates released Thursday by the Atlanta Regional Commission show an unexpectedly long-lasting movement of new residents to the city of Atlanta... Charles "Chick" Krautler, ARC director, attributed much of the growth to the appeal the region's climate and housing prices provide to young people. And despite recent job losses, metro Atlanta continues to offer enough job opportunities to keep most of them working."
