Planners, architects and dermatologists discuss how planning for more shade can help prevent cancer in Toronto.
"In Australia you would never see a jungle gym in a school yard sitting out in the sun," says From, who was in Australia last year. "You see that routinely here. There, the children would be under a couple of big tall trees or have an awning over the top.... A recent multi-disciplinary seminar on shade and the dangers of skin cancer held by Ryerson University and the Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition brought together urban planners, landscape architects, architects, dermatologists and others to look at ways to make Toronto greener and shadier."
