The Anti-Tax, Smart Growth Connection

It would be ironic if anti-tax conservatives were in fact unknowingly creating strong incentives for smart growth. This may be what's happening in California.
"Politics is full of ironies, but this one may be the most delicious: We may one day thank anti-tax conservative legislators... for having forced the Sacramento region to reach a consensus on smart growth principles in transportation and land use... The Republicans at the state Capitol who defend the requirement for a two-thirds vote to pass local transportation sales taxes are giving opponents of urban sprawl the political leverage to remake the face of Sacramento's future."
