Protected Toad Habitat Could Stall Major Developments

Designation of almost 500,000 acres in California for the endangered Southwestern arroyo toad threatens projects from San Diego to Ventura.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service will propose Thursday to designate nearly 500,000 acres in California as critical habitat for the tiny toad, which was listed as endnagered in 1994, and is now nearly extinct. Several prominent development projects could be impacted, including Newhall Land and Farming.
