College dorms are being replaced by plush residences as collegees use private developers to build new units.
Private developers are transfroming the image of university dorms. "The trend of fitting campus residences with more amenities that make them feel like home is translating to a healthy business niche... 'State schools in the past didn't treat students like customers,' said Hand. 'Now they're trying to take on a more service-oriented mentality.' To pay for the upgrades, students can expect to pay 30 to 50 percent more for room and board, Hand said. But parents and students are willing to do so 'if they see the value,' he said."
