Walking To Work Not So Pedestrian

Philadelphia's Center City is the nation's largest "24-hour" downtown.
Columnist Mark Alan Hughes examines new Census data on walking to work. 38,000 people in Center City reside in 10 census tracts in which 50 percent or more people walk to work. Back Bay Boston is second with 33,000 people in 7 tracts. A concentration of walkers to work reflects a rare settlement type with high density and diverse land use.
