Charleston Reinvents The Gas Station

Charleston architects and developers are finding new uses for old gas station structures and producing innovative designs for a new generation of pedestrian-friendly stations.
Charleston's preservation movement was born in the fight defend historic buildings from developers intent on replacing them with auto dealerships and gas stations. Now many people think these early gas stations are historic in their own right. Others argue that replacing them with new buildings will heal old wounds in the urban fabric.
