A Commute Race: Bike Vs. SUV

A 19-pound racing bike goes up against a Range Rover for a 15-mile commute to work in the Bay Area. Guess who arrived first?

"In one corner was Carl Guardino, a triathlete and chief of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group, on a blue 24-speed, three-gear Trek 5200 bike -- the same one used by Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong. His route, 15 miles on bike-friendly streets, compared with 12 for the sport-utility vehicle.In the other corner stood Marcus Liban, co-founder of SV Technology, a San Francisco software company, and his 1997 Range Rover, which averages 13 mpg in the city..."
