Senior Consultant – Transportation Planner/Engineer

RSG is seeking a senior transportation planner/engineer to join our Northeast U.S. Transportation Planning and Engineering Practice. This individual will work closely with RSG’s transportation planning and engineering staff in managing complex and interesting transportation corridor studies, traffic operations analyses, transportation scoping studies, bicycle and pedestrian facility scoping and design efforts, traffic impact studies, and other related work for local, regional, state, institutional, and private-sector clients. This individual will also play an important role in staff management, business development, and client outreach.

We seek someone with the following qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred but not a requirement)
  • BA or BS in planning, engineering, science, mathematics or a similarly quantitative field of study
  • 5+ years’ experience working on transportation planning and/or transportation engineering projects
  • Demonstrated experience applying current transportation planning approaches (e.g., complete streets/road      diets, context sensitive solutions, etc.) as well as an appreciation of the importance of multimodal solutions to land use and transportation issues
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience applying fundamental transportation engineering concepts (e.g. trip generation and distribution, capacity analyses, safety analyses, turn-lane and signal warrants, parking analyses) along with a demonstrated familiarity with core transportation engineering manuals (Highway Capacity Manual, Trip Generation, Parking Generation, Green Book, etc.)
  • Experience using traffic modeling packages including Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, TransModeler
  • Experience using CAD software packages including AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads
  • Demonstrated experience working on and managing complex and potentially politically challenging projects
  • Experience successfully supervising and mentoring junior professional staff
  • Experience leading successful business development initiatives
  • Strong analytic and computer skills, including GIS and statistics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public presentation development and delivery
