Summary: Under general administrative supervision, the Transportation Planner performs planning work in mass transit and/or transportation through the management of key SFRTA programs and the management of transportation planning studies and projects.
Skills: Requires knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and information sources for transportation planning. Knowledge of socioeconomic, land use, and development, environmental impacts, demographics, travel behavior, and transit demand concepts. Individual must have knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations governing transit, transportation programs and knowledge of project management techniques and methods. Experience and ability to prepare and/or supervise the preparation of reports on complex and difficult planning issues; develop, interpret, coordinate, carry out and monitor transit or transportation policy and planning work, including completion of complex written documents and reports. Ability to track, develop and analyze various SFRTA, Local, Regional, State and Federal funding programs and project details, including preparation of reports. Must have knowledge of and ability to design and prepare maps, charts, and other graphic materials to illustrate plans or reports which may include development, preparation and delivery of presentations. Must have the ability to prepare plans and to project future transit, transportation, economic or demographic conditions and trends. Ability to investigate and review Federal and State legislation and regulations for potential impact on transit/transportation plans and programs.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Transportation Engineering, or other closely related field plus a minimum of two years of transit planning and/or transportation planning experience or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Must have the ability to work with a personal computer in a Windows environment. Requires proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, GIS mapping software, and other presentation and scheduling software.
