POSITION SUMMARY:

The School of Architecture at Pratt Institute invites nominations and applications for the position of Academic Coordinator (Head of Program) for the graduate program in Historic Preservation. The Historic Preservation program serves a student body of 20 to 30 and awards a Master of Science degree for its two-year program.

Historic Preservation is one of nine graduate and undergraduate programs in the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute, a 4500-student university in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Historic Preservation is situated within the Programs for Sustainable Planning & Development (pratt.edu/pspd), along with the City & Regional Planning and the Urban Environmental Systems Management graduate programs. Founded in 2004, the Historic Preservation program has just undergone its first program evaluation, conducted by a team of faculty, alumni, and advisers. The team has identified exciting new opportunities for Pratt to prepare the next generation of preservationists to address the current challenges affecting historically significant buildings, communities, towns, and cities. Pratt seeks a dynamic, innovative, motivated leader to guide the program as it evolves and matures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

-        Provide academic and administrative leadership to the program.

-        Recruit students and faculty.

-        Develop curriculum.

-        Advise and mentor students.

-        Develop grants and fundraising initiatives.

-        Participate in program accreditation.

-        Represent the department within the Institute and to the profession.

-        Teach one course in each semester.

-        Perform all other related activities as required.

SALARY is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We require a master’s degree, either in Historic Preservation (preferably), Urban Planning, History, or a related field; a Ph.D. is an advantage. Applicants must have at least one (1) year’s administrative experience, preferably in higher education; a minimum of three (3) years’ college level teaching experience; demonstrated leadership ability; excellent communication skills; and recognized standing in the field.
