Candidates will be considered for full-time positions only in our Tustin CA location.  Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply and knowledge of the Southern California geography and political climate is a plus.

The Project Planner works closely with Principals and Project Managers and other team members to research, write, revise, and edit text for planning documents and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) reports, primarily for private sector clients.  The Project Planner also prepares application forms and public notices, reviews, analyzes and critiques technical reports, attends meetings, and coordinates with public agencies, clients, and project team members.  Additionally responsible for preparing proposals, schedules, and assisting with general office duties including filing, phones, mailings, deliveries and other related tasks. 

 Minimum Credentials and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in urban planning, environmental studies, geography, public administration, technical writing, or a related field.
• 2  – 3 years’ experience in the Southern California area, including knowledge of planning, zoning, and CEQA requirements.
• Superior writing and editing skills. 
• A valid driver’s license.

 Required Skills:

• Excellent writing, editing, and research skills. (Note: this is a writing-intenstive position and these skills must be excellent.)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.  Ability to effectively communicate ideas in writing and orally, including effective ability to explain plans, maps, and documents in a manner that can be easily understood and followed.
• Working knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to land use planning, zoning, and environmental analysis.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
• Ability to effectively read and interpret land use plans, subdivision maps, topographic maps, grading plans, site plans, and other maps.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat and InDesign.
• Proficiency with filing and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of basic GIS concepts and applications.
