The City of El Cerrito is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as its Development Services Manager.  El Cerrito, a San Francisco Bay Area community with a diverse and highly engaged population of 23,549, is a full-service city with 190 budgeted full-time employees and a budget of $45 million.  The position is responsible for directing the operations of the Planning and Building Divisions and reports directly to the Department Director.  The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual who is extremely well-versed in all development-related issues and must be able to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and provide direction to the Department and City management; an effective mentor and leader for staff; a hands-on manager who is creative and collaborative in addressing organizational challenges and opportunities with contemporary approaches to building and maintaining a service-oriented and high performing department; and will have a reputation for high levels of professionalism and flawless integrity. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of planning, zoning, subdivision and building design and current trends in municipal planning and building programs, including use of new technology; at least five years of increasingly responsible professional planning or building experience (including two years of management and administrative responsibility); and the equivalent of a B.A. with major course work in urban studies, public administration, business administration or a closely related field; Master’s highly desirable, AICP certification preferred.
