Communications Intern, Part-time Position (20 – 25 hours per week/$15.00 per hour)

The City of Temple City is seeking a Communications Intern to contribute to the city’s quarterly magazine Connect, assist in marketing campaigns and provide support for public outreach. Applicants should be a junior, senior or graduate student enrolled in one of the following programs: Journalism, Communications, Public Policy and Urban Planning.

The ideal candidate will draft and edit a variety of written material (e.g., news releases, fact sheets and marketing collateral); maintain media lists and track media coverage; assist in pitching stories to reporters; contribute features and stories for the quarterly city newsletter; create copy for the new city website; write scripts for public service announcements; oversee programming of the city’s cable channel; conduct research on issues and programs; and perform other duties as needed.

This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills; copyediting and previous experience with an online or print publication; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Mac OS; knowledge of HTML and the Adobe Creative Suite; strong attention to detail; ability to work independently, handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and an interest in public relations, public policy and civic engagement.
