TECH-260

This one-hour hands-on webinar will introduce you to the Suitability tool included in CommunityViz. The wizard-based tool identifies the best locations for various activities. The Suitability Wizard guides the user in measuring that layer’s proximity (or overlap) with each potential site and weighing the importance of that factor to create a score. ArcGIS symbolization illustrates the score by ramping the colors from best to worst. Whether you wish to avoid hazards, calculate walkability, phase infrastructure or protect natural resources, Suitability offers a simpler way to integrate GIS into your spatial analysis.

You may simply watch the presentation or if you wish to work concurrently, registrants will receive instructions to download a 30 day evaluation version of CommunityViz *(requires ArcGIS 9.2 or above).

This is the second of four webinars that will explore wizard-driven planning analysis using CommunityViz. The other topics include build-out, land use allocation and sustainability impact calculations. Each webinar will stand alone or all four can be taken together.

Additional Notes

  • This course assumes that you are comfortable using a computer and basic ArcGIS. If you don’t feel confident using a computer, this course is not for you.
  • The course will be presented at a slow pace, so that you can complete the tasks on your own computer. Note that you must install ArcGIS and CommunityViz in advance (these may be eval versions). Alternatively, you can watch the webinar to understand the process and learn about its potential.
  • We try to accommodate different learning styles. Toward this end, we will provide a detailed, step-by-step script of the hands-on exercises 48 hours prior to the webinar start time.
  • Cancellations must be made three days prior to the webinar. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the webinar start time will forfeit the course registration fee.
  • If you require a certificate of completion, we will (a) evaluate performance based on your participation in the full webinar (as audited by GoToWebinar); and, (b) your satisfactory completion of the course activities, as demonstrated by a screen shot from Google Earth upon conclusion of the hands-on activities. Please request your certificate of completion following the webinar by sending an email to editor@planetizen.com.
