Video is a powerful tool for community outreach. This webinar will give you the tools you need to post videos to the web, and use the many free distribution methods at your disposal, like YouTube and vidcasting.
You’ll also learn how to take your videos a step further for a professional look and feel. From communicating with a cameraperson to lighting and sound you will walk away with a step-by-step guide for creating video for your city or organization.

Webinar Outline
- Why use video for planning? A look at the innovative ways planners, developers and designers are using video to communicate.
- VIDEO CONTENT TYPES- Understanding clearly what type of video content you are creating will really get you organized and focused.
- CAPTURING FOOTAGE- Getting good tape is the most important part of the process. We'll cover the details you'll need to know about cameras, lighting, location, etc.
- RUNNING THE SHOOT- Organizing your video shoot will get you the most bang for your buck. We'll go everything you need to prepare for the day to go smoothly.
- BASIC EDITING AND MIXING - We'll cover the basics of software to get you set up, and general concepts of editing video, including a live example for illustration editing in Final Cut.
- DISTRIBUTION- We'll go over the advantages and disadvantages of different distribution channels (YouTube, vidcasting, email) and explain how to prepare and post your movie.
- The webinar will be conducted using GoToWebinar.
- You will need Internet access, a web browser, and access to a telephone to call into the audio portion of the webinar.
- The registration details will be emailed to you at least 24 hours prior to the webinar start date and time.
- Please login to the webinar 10 minutes before the planned start time to ensure that you are able to access GoToWebinar and download the required plugins. (You can attend GoToWebinars using both MacOS and Windows.)
- Cancellations must be made three days prior to the webinar. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the webinar start time will forfeit the course registration fee.
- If you require a certificate of completion, we will evaluate performance based on your participation in the full webinar (as audited by GoToWebinar). Please request your certificate of completion following the webinar by sending an email to editor@planetizen.com.

About the Instructor

Tim Halbur is managing editor of Planetizen. He has a long history creating media for broadcast and online distribution, beginning with a BA in Broadcasting in 1992.
At NPR affiliate KQED-FM in San Francisco, Tim reported stories for Weekend Edition, The California Report, and KQED News. The NPR style is a touchstone for him, epitomizing an authentic documentary style that is highly appropriate for planning communication. After several years producing audio and multimedia tours for museums and historic sites, Tim returned to school to get his masters in urban and regional planning at San José State University.
In 2005, Tim founded Hear Now Productions, a multimedia communications company dedicated to producing authentic online audio and video. Clients included the Metropolitan Transportation Commission of the SF Bay Area, Reconnecting America, Chronicle Books, and Four Seasons Hotels.
