Real-Time Arrival Data Coming to Philadelphia Bus Riders

Philadelphia's public transit system is preparing to launch a new service that makes bus and train arrival times available to riders' handheld devices.

The Internet-based service will include real-time data on bus locations and their expected arrival times.

"SEPTA has also previously announced plans to release a new system called Next To Arrive, a website that will let users check when the next train will arrive at any given regional rail station.

With these moves, SEPTA is joining other major transit agencies throughout the country, which have focused on providing riders with an increasing amount of real-time information."

Is it worth the money?

I like this idea and think it would be useful, I am a regular bus rider and often wonder, did I miss the bus I want? why is it so late? but given the major financial problems faced by most public transit systems, I wonder whether the cost of having a system like this is worth the expense. Also, it needs to be very accurate for it to be useful. I would not want to be stuck in the rain waiting for a bus if my iPhone said it is coming in 1 minute but it actually came 1 minute ago.
