Erik Kancler

Erik Kancler is the executive director of Central Oregon Landwatch, a non-profit land use watchdog group based in Bend, Oregon. He is also a freelance journalist, a photographer, and a part-time ranch hand.

Before departing the Golden State in 2005 for Oregon's high desert, Erik worked in San Francisco for Mother Jones Magazine as an editorial fellow. After moving to Bend, Erik began writing on land use, urban planning and local politics for Bend's alternative weekly paper, the Source Weekly, where he worked as staff writer and copy editor. Erik has also been a research associate for Solimar Research Group, a small consulting firm located in Ventura, CA, and a regular contributor to the California Planning & Development Report, California's only statewide publication dedicated to planning and development.

Erik holds a B.S. in Physical Geography and an M.A. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and stemming from his work there, is a published climate scientist.
